Vigil on the 2 year anniversary of Johan Floderus’s detention
Time & Location
17 Apr 2024, 06:00 – 18:00
Ixelles, Pl. du Luxembourg, 1050 Ixelles, Belgium
About the event
Location: Gare Europe, Pl. du Luxembourg, 1050 Ixelles, Belgium
Join us for a 12-hour vigil as family, friends, and colleagues stand together in support of EU staff member Johan Floderus, who is unjustly held hostage in Iran since 17 April 2022. This event will be a statement in solidarity of Johan’s plight and a call for action to demand justice and respect for Johan’s fundamental human rights.
The vigil will be mostly in silence, offering moments for reflection and solidarity, but speeches will also be held throughout the day, focusing on Johan’s situation. A song written by Johan's friends will be performed as a tribute to his resilience.
The speeches are scheduled to occur outside the Gare Europe from 07:30 to 09:30, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Following this, we will transition indoors to the Gare Europe to proceed with the 12-hour vigil.
This event aims to draw attention to the poor conditions in which Johan and other detainees are held in Evin prison and to the urgent need to uphold their basic human rights.
Join us as we stand in solidarity, demand justice and send a clear message that we will not remain silent in the face of injustice. Together we can make a difference. #FreeJohanFloderus
Important
Please be aware that there may be disruptions caused by the Special European Council meeting, so we advise avoiding the Schuman area when traveling to our event.
Media coverage
Journalists are welcome to attend the event, but interviews with speakers cannot be guaranteed due to the solemn nature of the vigil. The #FreeJohanFloderus campaign team will have a representative available to speak to the media and provide further insight into the campaign.
